Detailed Application Description

Goffitunes covers training the duration of the stimulus, the intensity of the stimulus and the duration of the inter-stimulus interval, at basic, intermediate and advanced levels, with progressive levels of difficulty.

In each section, there is the possibility of training with different stimulus frequencies (500Hz, 1000Hz and 4000Hz), in addition to complex sounds similar to speech sounds like [ch] and [m], in addition to doh.

Goal

The Goffitunes objective is to train attention to the details of the acoustic signal that can contribute to the auditory perception of speech and, consequently, facilitate its recognition.

For example, the intensity difference training exercise can facilitate the perception of the tonicity of words, for example, in the word [makaku], not only is the stressed syllable medial, but the last syllable [ku] is much weaker than the first.

In another example, in training the duration of the stimulus, the speech therapist can make relations with the speech to favor the identification of pauses, the rhythm of speech, the extension of the tonic vowel or the emphasis that is reached in the word when using the extension . For example: Did you call me "yesterday"? (the question refers to whether it was yesterday). Did you call me yesterday? (the question refers to whether it was you).

Interstimulus interval training refers to the more refined perception of the acoustic signal, which may be related, for example, to the ability to discriminate between deaf and audible phonemes.

Indications

Training with Goffitunes can help to refine hearing skills in people with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss, users of hearing aids, cochlear implants, or brainstem auditory implants. One of its advantages is that it is an instrument that does not depend on verbal proficiency, language or mastery of the language.

Goffitunes can also be used in individuals with normal hearing thresholds, but with difficulties in hearing sensation and / or discrimination skills. However, these individuals with normal hearing may not benefit from this training, considering it to be very basic or not very challenging.

Instructions for use

The perception of differences in intensity, duration and inter-stimuli will only make sense if the user can translate them into speech.

Training with sounds at Goffitunes must be accompanied by the use of these skills, both in perception and in speech production.

It is recommended to adjust the volume of the computer / tablet / cell phone to a comfortable intensity for each sound presented.

Usage restrictions

Make sure that the user has access to all stimuli used using his hearing device, be it a hearing aid or a cochlear or trunk implant. For this, he must have hearing thresholds in the free field with the device around 40 dBHL. If you do not have the thresholds available, do a test with regular speech and ensure that it detects all Ling sounds (a, i, u, m, sh, s), or present the sounds of the application in isolation, before start training.

Precautions

Check the intensity generated by your equipment, and try to use intensity similar to the usual voice speech (approximately 65 dBNPS).
