The Auditorium Design System, brought to you by Digital Design Solutions LLC, is a professional software tool for architects to generate the initial spatial form of a proscenium type auditorium based on programmatic and acoustical parameters. The software optimizes the various parameters and generates the 3D spatial form of the auditorium, which can be exported as a 3D DXF file. This DXF file can be imported into 3D CAD, BIM and modeling software such as AutoCAD, Sketchup, Revit and formZ. This DXF file can also be imported into acoustical simulation software such as EASE or ODEON to perform acoustical simulations with the spatial design.
The spatial form generated is an initial 3D wireframe in actual dimensions to be used in 3D modeling or BIM software for design development. This tool is intended for busy principal and project architects who want to generate candidate solutions and delegate the design development to the design team. The input parameters have been constrained to a range of values that have been established in auditorium design practice as being optimal, so the candidate solution is already optimized for realistic conditions.
Using a File Manager app (available as a free download: ZenUI by ASUS recommended), the DXF file can be emailed to the project team.
Features:
Programmatic Parameters:
Auditorium Capacity
Area per Seat
Stage Width
Stage Height
Stage Depth
Apron Depth
Depth for Visual Clarity
Seating Slope
Acoustical Parameters:
Reverberation Time
dB Loss Allowable
Initial Time Delay Gap between Direct and Reflected Sound
Inter Aural Cross Correlation (IACC)
The algorithmic process to generate the spatial form of the auditorium based on an optimization of these parameters was developed by Dr. Ganapathy Mahalingam for his doctoral research at the University of Florida.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY:
In order to scroll through the app, please touch the white area of the screen on the right. This will enable the scroller. Touching the gray canvas area of the design solution image will not allow you to scroll.
The DXF Export button is programmed to write the DXF file to a folder called 'data' in the 'sdcard' folder of your device. If you do not have a 'data' folder in the 'sdcard' folder in your device, clicking the button will generate an error message. In that case, use your File Manager app (available as a free download: ZenUI by ASUS recommended) to create a folder named 'data' in the 'sdcard' folder, so that you have an address path (/sdcard/data) to write the file. You may need to relaunch the app after creating this folder in order for the app to connect to the folder. The DXF file is stored with the same name 'result.dxf' each time, and successive exports are overwritten. So, after exporting a DXF file for a solution, you may want to rename your 'result.dxf' file or move it to another location before a subsequent export.
After updating parameters using the sliders the View Results button must be clicked to update the design solution. This will also update the screen where the data entered is displayed. The current solution (established by a View Results click) is the one used for the DXF export.
