PerfectPower, the automotive reference on-board system in power and performances measurements!
PerfectPower is, in the form of a revolutionary smartphone application, the automotive reference on-board system in power and performances measurements, the one with the best price / reliability of results / variety of features / operational independence ratio!
Seven major goals:
- Measure the standardized engine power (DIN, CEE, SAE, JIS, ISO) of your car
- Measure the performances of your car (accelerations, runs flying start, max speed, braking)
- Simulate the performances of your car (accelerations, runs flying start, max speed, ideal max revs)
- Perform engine development with the same efficiency as on chassis dynamometer
- Being able to calculate the gearbox ratios by rev calibration (as on chassis dynamometer)
- Being able to measure the freewheeling losses
- Measure lap times on track
And it achieves all this with an exceptional accuracy established theoretically AND proven in practice of +- 1% for power measurements, which are both its speciality and the most interesting measurements of all in automotive physics! Such accuracy is made possible by the accurate, permanent, and clever combination of the informations of the phone accelerometer and the GPS, knowing how to take the best of both sensors while eliminating the specific disadvantages when used individually. What - useful precision - is not done without efforts: it is the result of hundreds of hours of work, but also of high skills in physics and mathematics, that myself David Mettey creator of the application have, both by my training (engineer with two Bac +5 degrees in Physics) and my experience ((calculation engineer at Citroen Sport and test bench developer at Air France Industries).
Such accuracy can even be further improved and go well below the % by using the RaceBox Mini & Mini S (external GPS 25 Hz), driven by PerfectPower.
Of course, there are a certain number of rules to follow to achieve optimally accurate measurements (the most important being to perform measurements in both directions of the road -and on the same portion- and to ask PerfectPower to average them in order to eliminate the effects of road slope and wind), BUT when these rules are well followed, PerfectPower has proven that:
- It was as accurate for power measurements as the best chassis dynamometers (Rotronics -France-, Maha -Germany-, DynoJet -USA-)
- It was as accurate for acceleration measurements as the best external GPS, the RaceBox Mini & Mini S itself
- It was significantly more accurate than any other smartphone application in the field
It is so true that I didn't hesitate to launch on May 1, 2024 a friendly but very clear challenge of 10,000 euros & dollars on this subject, it is published on the PerfectPower website in the NEWS section, and any serious person or company who think they know their subject can take it up!
All information on PerfectPower on the official website www.perfectpower.ch
1) Performances Simulator: Tiny optimization: Taking into account the inertia of the car and the pneumatic "un-slip" during gear changes
2) Power Results Sheets: Catching up on an oversight in the last version 7.1: The measurement re-calculation function is now also automatic for the correction norm
