DILO is a tool designed especially for people with difficulties in the area of ​​oral or written communication, being an instrument and communication system alternative and / or augmentative communication.

It allows both its use as a communication system as a tool for professionals in the field of generalized disorders of development and spectrum of Autism, acquired brain damage as well as other impairments at the communication level, for the training and teaching of concepts both through images and literacy phonological, global and structuring of language.

How has it developed?

DILO was developed from the need observed in the field of the spectrum of autism and acquired brain damage, initially as a tool for the communication of two concrete cases very different from each other; one of them oriented to the understanding and expression of the language, using therefore the literacy and formation of sentences for petitions; another at the basic level through the exchange of a real image or pictogram. From there, the different levels were adjusted and tested according to the results that were obtained, until achieving 3 levels of combinable communication; image, pictos level phrase and lectoesritura by categories, so that the tool could adapt to the different needs of the population.

Its usability was improved during a year by means of tests with the population described and adapted according to the needs that marked the users, families and tutors, cleaning the interface of the application of possible distractors and always taking into account the simplicity of stimuli necessary for its better performance, taking into account from difficulties in attention to stimuli to the motor skills of users, facilitating their accessibility in the population to which it is addressed.

Results

DILO not only allows the expression of requests from users, it can also serve as a training tool for new units and concepts necessary depending on the case, by matching stimuli based on incidental learning. For this purpose, different resources are provided, such as the camera mode, taking a photo of the real stimulus, or the writing of the concept to train, so that once acquired, it would remain in the user's comprehensive and expressive repertoire.

In the cases in which it was trained and for which the application was designed, substantial improvements have been observed, DILO becoming the communication system of the students, acquiring new learnings through it.

What possibilities does it offer?

· Basic mode: sample of discrete cards as mode of request / training of the concept through discrete trials
· Advanced mode: creation of phrase level structures through downloadable pictograms on the ARASAAC website (http://www.arasaac.org/) or words written according to the level of the student.
· Writing mode: allows the creation of new cards by writing them
· Creation of own structures: cards based on photographs of real objects

How to use it?

DILO consists of two different launchers; one to configure the app according to the needs of the user, where the options for using the application itself are configured; another through which the tool is accessed. Both launchers are independent, so in a Tablet or mobile you can keep only the launcher of the application visible, thus avoiding errors or changes in its configuration due to errors in the manipulation of the system.
