Okinawa 1945 is a turn based strategy board game which takes place on the Pacific Theater during the Second World War. From Joni Nuutinen: by a wargamer for the wargamers since 2011
April 1945: You are in command of the American force invading the island of Okinawa, held by the Imperial Japanese Army. Operation Iceberg was one of the major battles of the Pacific War and the largest amphibious assault in the Pacific Theater of World War II. The object of the game is to completely conquer this large island as quickly as possible in the middle of Kamikaze attacks against your warships, which are providing supplies to the ground campaign. Japan hoped to make the battle for Okinawa so costly to the American forces that they would not launch an offensive against the Japanese home islands.
The Okinawa campaign has been referred to as the typhoon of steel and violent wind of steel because of the fierceness of the fighting, the intensity of Japanese kamikaze attacks, and the numbers of Allied ships and armored vehicles.
"Okinawa was the bloodiest battle in Marine Corps history. For 82 days, Marines fought hand-to-hand, often in caves and tunnels. The fighting was so fierce that the island was nicknamed 'the Typhoon of Steel.'"
- General Holland M. Smith, USMC
FEATURES:
+ Historical accuracy: Campaign mirrors the historical setup of the Operation Iceberg.
+ Long-lasting: Thanks to in-built variation and the game's smart AI technology, each game provides a unique war gaming experience.
+ Competitive: Measure your strategy game skills against others fighting for the Hall of Fame top spots.
+ Good AI: Instead of just moving on direct line towards the target, the AI opponent balances between strategic goals and smaller tasks like encircling nearby units
+ Customization Options: A wide range of settings allows you to personalize your gaming experience. You can adjust the difficulty level, hexagon size, animation speed, and select your preferred icon set for units (NATO or REAL) and cities (Round, Shield, Square, block of houses). Additionally, you have the freedom to choose what elements are displayed on the map, along with numerous other customizable features.
To emerge as a triumphant commander in this strategic endeavor, one must master the art of coordinating assaults through two pivotal methods. Firstly, by harnessing the supportive capabilities of adjacent units, it is imperative to maintain cohesive formations, enabling the acquisition of local superiority on the battlefield. Secondly, relying solely on sheer force seldom proves optimal. Instead, exploiting the opportunity to encircle the adversary and sever their vital supply lines often yields superior outcomes.
"Okinawa was the most costly battle of the war for the Japanese. It was a battle that they could not afford to lose, and they lost it."
- Japanese Lieutenant General Mitsuru Ushijima
+ War Status: Lists number of hexagons lost/conquered during the previous turn
+ Extra MPs in rear area: One or two enemy hexagons within the large range won't stop getting extra MPs (the previous rule was absolute)
+ Setting: Turn making a failsafe copy of the current game ON/OFF (turn OFF for old devices that are out of memory)
+ Fix: Movement arrows failed to scale correctly on some phones
+ HOF cleared from the oldest scores
