Check out Valvo for strategic fun at all skill levels. Valvo has a configurable board, variable AI settings, and very simple rules. The objective is to reach the opposite end of a winding pathway before your opponent — who sets out from your target square — can do the same. The “valves” that give Valvo its name are shortcuts on the path. When the pawn of either side ends its move, the valves that match the color of the square landed on are opened, and all other valves are closed. If the opponent’s pawn arrives at a square beside an open valve, the shortcut MUST be taken, regardless of whether it leads towards or away from the goal.

Like backgammon, Valvo is a game of skill in which the set of available moves on each turn is determined by chance. Valvo is much simpler even than backgammon, however. You will be playing in no time. Smaller board sizes (down to 4 by 4) make for a brief game of a minute or two per round. Chance plays a somewhat greater role on a small board. Larger sizes offer a longer game with more scope for strategic planning, and less prospect of a lucky win. Work up through the Artificial Intelligence (AI) levels as your play improves.

Use Valvo to get your mind off work for a few minutes, or settle down with it for a real mental work-out at one of the tougher AI settings. At any level, you’ll find in Valvo a relaxing pastime with no built-in time pressures. Valvo comes with its own small jukebox of original background music, or you can shut off the sound and listen to anything you like.
