In this post, I am going to show you how to install Pinyin and Tones resizable IME + Chinese on Windows PC by using Android App Player such as BlueStacks, LDPlayer, Nox, KOPlayer, ...

  1. Download and Install BlueStacks at: https://www.bluestacks.com. The installation procedure is quite simple. After successful installation, open the Bluestacks emulator. It may take some time to load the Bluestacks app initially. Once it is opened, you should be able to see the Home screen of Bluestacks.
  2. Open the APK/XAPK file: Double-click the APK/XAPK file to launch BlueStacks and install the application. If your APK/XAPK file doesn't automatically open BlueStacks, right-click on it and select Open with... Browse to the BlueStacks. Pinyin & Tones IME is the *only* pinyin-based Hanzi input method on the Android market where you have to use the tones.

Ideal for students of Chinese --- written exercises such as essays, etc, become an opportunity to reinforce and revise your tones. Current IMEs such as Google Pinyin are aimed at native speakers, whose needs are quite different from learners. This keyboard lets you continuously practice the tones through normal input of text.

Unusually for an Android input method, Pinyin & Tones IME allows you to freely resize the keyboard, with separate settings for portrait and landscape modes. There's also a delete mode option.

Tones are supplied in the standard format used by many dictionary websites, as a numeric suffix to each pinyin syllable. E.g. to input "我要", you should type "wo3yao4". To input "我的", you type "wo3de5", etc.

Supports simplified and traditional characters. The traditional character support is through an automated conversion process, please report any issues you spot.

Notes:
* Some characters, for example 为, can be read with more than one tone, depending on meaning. For these characters, if entered as part of a longer word, the tone applicable for that word is needed. For example, 以为 is entered as yi3wei2, but 为什么 is entered as wei4shen2me5. However if you enter each character individually you can use any valid tone for each character.
* Tone sandhi rules are not applied.
* Neutral tones are used in compound words: if you can't get it to display a word even though you think you're typing the correct tones for each character, it will often be because the final character should be neutral (5th tone).
