Sync Tracker helps create more engaging videos with GPS video tracking. The app enables you to easily capture and synchronise on screen GPS data in your videos. Video cameras that record GPS data with their video footage are quite rare, and expensive. Many video makers combine GPS footage recorded with their smart phone, with video shot on their action camera. But synchronising this data with the video can be pretty tricky. Sync Tracker makes this process much more simple.

SyncTracker App recording GPS tracking data for video.Action cameras are very popular. Their small size, protective housing, and vast array of available mounts allows you to capture all of life’s adventures. In many cases, such as motor and cycle racing, trials riding etc. providing details like speed, location, and route information in these videos allows you to show your adventures off to the full. Unfortunately, almost all cameras models on the market do not have GPS built in. Freely available software allows you to import video and GPS data separately from any source. This is great! But there is a downside, synchronising the video with the location data can be a pretty tricky affair. It seems like the only method is first of all to find a point in the video that you know the location of, and then match this location to the GPS data. In practise, this can be difficult to get right.

How to SyncTracker provides GPS Video Tracking

Sync Tracker makes the process of synchronising video and GPS data a breeze! Recording different aspects of a video on different systems, is nothing new. The film industry is the most noteworthy example of this, they will record audio separately to video on set, then combine the two in editing. To perfectly synchronise the two they use a clapper board, snapping it closed in front of the camera provides and audio visual-cue for the camera, and an audio cue in the sound. Sync Tracker applies this same principal to GPS data.

SyncTracker app creating synchronisation visual and data cue for GPS video tracking.First of all, hit record on your camera, and start your GPS recording in Sync Tracker. Now Simply show the screen of your device to your camera and press the synchronise button for a second or so. The phone screen will turn red, providing you with a visual cue during your editing. When a synchronisable GPX file is exported from the app, the period during the red screen will have the location set to predefined coordinates. This acts as your location data cue.

During editing, there are two methods to synchronise the information. Simply match the sync point’s start and end cues in the video with the GPS cues in your chosen editing software. Alternatively, edit the video by cutting it to start with the first frame when the screen turns back to white. Then, using a text editor, delete all position data up to and including the final point at the predefined sync point coordinates. When you import the video and GPS data into your editor, the start of both will be perfectly synchronised.
