The EU wine market by 2009, many changes in the appellation designations, the statutory decrees and the authorized varieties showed. All quality Italian wines now carry the "DOP", but the earlier terms "DOC" and "DOCG" may be used. And so are listed in the lexicon with all wines, the new and previous names. Countless links and cross-references leading to the respective varieties to particular types of wine and information on the growing area.

The author Egon Mark is a certified sommelier and wine academics with WSET Diploma. He was a trainer and examiner for the sommelier training in Austria. Some very successful participation in sommelier competitions, among other things brought him the title of "FALSTAFF Sommelier of the Year 1992/93". Back in the 80s, the author completed the trials of the "Level I" and "Phase II" of the Italian Sommelier at Sommelier Association in Bolzano, South Tyrol.
