John Nelson Darby was born as the youngest son of a famous Irish aristocratic family on November 18, 1800 in the city of Westminster (London). His father, Lord John Darby of Leap Castle (Kings County) was a descendant of an old Norman family; his mother, he has lost while still very young, descended from the family known Vaughan of Wales. The fact that the famous general-demarinha, Lord Nelson, was godfather little John the request of parents, shows how this family was renowned. To the honor of Lord Nelson received the second name.

As a boy, John Nelson Darby studied at Westminster School, and the desire of his father, from 1815 went to college at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. The first part of his studies ended in 1819 with award: received the "Classical Gold Medal."
For this, after their departure from the official church, he opened a wide field of work to John Nelson Darby. Already in 1830 the work was extended from Dublin to Limerick and other Irish cities. Also in Cambridge, Oxford and Plymouth (name one that, in part, to this day is still being mentioned in close connection with the "brothers") as well as in London appeared larger or smaller testimony of the Church. John Nelson Darby traveled across the country in the service of the Lord.

In the year 1837, John Nelson Darby started its activities in Switzerland, where he worked blessedly in Geneva and Lausanne. In the years 1840 to 1845 traveled again by Switzerland and France. Ali's work, in a similar manner, has spread.
In the years 1847 to 1853 various travels took him to these countries, which served the congregations and met the brothers at the conferences for the study of God's Word.

In early 1853 he heard from a group of believers Rhineland region of Germany. Then there was an exchange of letters with Carl Brockhaus resulting in a visit of John Nelson Darby to Elberfeld in 1854. During the trip, John Nelson Darby was for a few days in the Netherlands, making the first visit to the brothers in Haarlem, Amsterdam and Winterswijk . Finally in 1874-1877 he visited the United States and Canada. During the last trip also came to visit New Zealand.

After his last trip overseas, John Nelson Darby visited again Germany (1878), Switzerland, Italy and France. In the advanced age of 79 he returned to England, where he still worked as a writer until his death in 1882. His complete works (edited by his friend William Kelly) encompass 34 volumes ( "Collected Writings of JN Darby"). They add further 7 volumes of notes and comments ( "Notes and Comments"), 3 volumes of miscelânias ( "Miscellaneous Writings") and three volumes of letters ( "Letters"). His best known and perhaps the most precious work is the "Bible books Synopsis" ( "Synopsis of the Books of the Bible"), in which John Nelson Darby gives an overview of the whole Bible. He is also known as a poet. Known are its "Spiritual Songs" ( "Spiritual Hymns") and the many hymns in the English hymnbook brothers.

In the year 1881, John Nelson Darby was still working on his English edition of hymnal. On December 15, 1881, he wrote the preface to the French Bible was published in 1882. In late January, its constitution allowed him to fulfill only half of their daily tasks. In recent weeks and was received care at Brother Hammond in Bournemouth. It was there that he died on April 29, 1882. In a simple white headstone cemetery Bournemouth reads the words:

He died in the Lord on April 29, 1882 (81 years)
