This will lead you through a walking tour through the historic district of Newport Rhode Island. Newport's unique circumstances has left it with over 300 colonial buildings. This tour will guide you through a path which will show you many typical historic buildings, and point out interesting architectural details of colonial buildings. It also will share some of the history, and historic personages, of colonial Newport.

The tour can be followed either on a map, or by following the list of stops. Each stop has a brief overview, with a longer description available for those who are interested in a bit more depth.

Colonial Newport was one of the 4 or 5 largest cities in colonial North America, but the occupation by the British during the Revolution brought commerce to a standstill. The destruction of economics and property, not the least every tree but one in the city, caused a deep recession that Newport never fully recovered from. As a result, we can get a glimpse of colonial Newport.

The tour is broken into two parts, each about a mile, depending on how far you want to walk. starts on Pelham Street, to Thames, up past Trinity Church, and on into Washington Square (Eisenhower Park). The second part starts where part one finished, and leads you over to Easton's Point and the colonial furniture makers.
