In this post, I am going to show you how to install Isle of Man Weather Data on Windows PC by using Android App Player such as BlueStacks, LDPlayer, Nox, KOPlayer, ...

Before you start, you will need to download the APK/XAPK installer file, you can find download button on top of this page. Save it to easy-to-find location.

Below you will find a detailed step-by-step guide, but I want to give you a fast overview of how it works. All you need is an emulator that will emulate an Android device on your Windows PC and then you can install applications and use it - you see you're playing it on Android, but this runs not on a smartphone or tablet, it runs on a PC.

Step By Step Guide To Install Isle of Man Weather Data using BlueStacks

  1. Download and Install BlueStacks at: https://www.bluestacks.com. The installation procedure is quite simple. After successful installation, open the Bluestacks emulator. It may take some time to load the Bluestacks app initially. Once it is opened, you should be able to see the Home screen of Bluestacks.
  2. Open the APK/XAPK file: Double-click the APK/XAPK file to launch BlueStacks and install the application. If your APK/XAPK file doesn't automatically open BlueStacks, right-click on it and select Open with... Browse to the BlueStacks. You can also drag-and-drop the APK/XAPK file onto the BlueStacks home screen
  3. Once installed, click "Isle of Man Weather Data" icon on the home screen to start using, it'll work like a charm :D

Ever wondered how warm it actually is outside right now? What the hottest day of the year has been so far?... or how cold "it's freezing!" really is? – well now you can find out easily!

This proof of concept app provides real-time independent weather data for the Isle of Man and specifically the metrics of temperature (°C) and relative humidity (%). Designed to capture and display data, it is not meant as a weather forecasting app although this feature and the other measurements required for this may be added in the future. Data is currently updated every 30 minutes with previous readings available to allow trend analysis and visual data plotting in various graphical formats.

The data stream was born on 5th July 2018 and therefore data is only available from then onward. Temperature data is recorded to an accuracy of ±0.5°C with relative humidity to ±4.5%. All data is recorded in the West of the island and is independent of and not designed to replace the data of the Isle of Man Met Office.

This app will only currently function for residents of the UK, Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, France, Spain and Portugal.

Technical Proof of Concept:

1. Made utilising iBeacon technology and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

2. Bespoke iBeacon temperature/humidity sensors in West of island transmit data via BLE.

3. Bespoke custom built gateways receive and collect incoming BLE signals from the sensors.

4. A bespoke script loops round reading, translating and entering these signals into a SQL database.

5. A custom built Android front-end app (this app) displays the collected data in a variety of user-friendly formats.
