The history of the union unfolded alongside the history of Osasco, but I will briefly cut back on our actions from the 1970s, when we were still the Professional Association of Trade Employees in Osasco (APECO). At the time, we still attended a small room on Rua João Batista, in the center of Osasco. The Secor was founded as a result of the efforts of the region's merchants in 1976. The first president to act in the syndicate was Inacio Santamaría Garcia.
Due to the military regime experienced at the time and to the little financial resource, our performance was restricted to assistencialismo to the workers and the questions related to the sport. The proposal for the category was the construction of a sports center in the region, in addition to closing the trade on Saturdays after 13h.
In the following decade, we fought for the closing of the trade on Sundays, besides the inspection in relation to the excess of hours worked by the merchant. The president who had taken over the union at that time, João Ubijara Neves Martins, better known as Bira, allowed the opening of more space on the Board, allowing the entry of new comrades working in local organizations such as Paulo Cunha, Gildeson Cardoso de Santana and our current president, José Pereira da Silva Neto.
The Secor began to participate in general struggles of the working class, major strikes and organized social movement in the region. In 1990, the union expanded its representation and began attending also Carapicuíba, Itapevi, Jandira, Taboão da Serra and Embu.
President Neto assumed the position between 1991 and 1995, being his right arm the secretary general Irineu dos Santos de Souza. In the next election, both contested the presidency. Chapa One, de Neto, was elected with 70% of valid votes.
The mobilization of workers was more present when large economic groups arrived in Brazil. With the logic of flexibilization of rights that did not apply to national workers, there were constant paralyzes in Walmart, Carrefour, C & A, Pão de Açúcar, Besni and Memphis stores, for example.
Struggling for better living conditions for the traders, expanding their rights and benefits, we expanded our representation when we join the Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT). In addition, we participate in national and international activities through the National Confederation of Workers in Trade and Services (CONTRACS). Today, we form a Secor brand, respected in these spaces.
Since its foundation, union membership has participated in political and historical celebrations at local, regional and national levels, such as Labor Day (May 1), International Women's Day (8 March) and Black Consciousness Day (30 October).
Currently, we represent approximately 70 thousand workers.
In the midst of struggles and victories, Secor and our category celebrated a great step in the conquest of more rights. On April 14, 2013, the president Dilma Rousseff sanctioned Law 12,790 / 13 that regulates the profession of the trader. Among many other rights, the law assures the worker the obligation to specify the profession in the Work and Social Security portfolio and determines a workday of 8 hours a day and 44 a week. In addition, October 30 was established as Trade Day.
We continue to struggle and work for policies that generate quality jobs for traders as well as social guarantees for the entire working class.
