Over 2500 students go on exchange from Australia and New Zealand each year. They spend up to 12 months living and studying in another culture.
Student Exchange Australia New Zealand Ltd sends to over 20 destinations worldwide. Students can choose from a few weeks with a school group, through to experiences of between 2 and 10 months.
What do students gain from going on exchange?
There are so many different programs and countries for teens to explore and experience. It is easy to find a program that meets their needs and fit in with plans for school and further study. There are also opportunities to host an overseas exchange student in their homes as a volunteer host family.
Hundreds of students benefit from being an exchange student. Student exchange is an investment for life. The experience can be beneficial in many different and valuable ways:
•Learn another language and open career doors you didn’t know existed
•Get to know how others live and come to see the world from another perspective
•Test yourself and acquire independence and maturity
•Make new friends and appreciate old ones even more
•Gain experience and judgement
•Learn about the world first hand
Long after teens return home their exchange experience will influence and inform their life. It will provide them with a substantial backdrop from which to make future study and career choices. Employers are increasingly alert to the benefits of student exchange. The experience will set them apart from the crowd and mark them as someone who has proven themselves in challenging circumstances. Experience is everythingTM.
Why is it something that needs to be done as a teen?
Being an exchange student can be a life changing experience. It is a good way for teens to move outside their comfort zones and learn about the world and themselves.
A student exchange program complements a student’s formal education in important and exciting ways.
Imagine living overseas for anything from two to twelve months. Students will be placed with a host family and attend a local school. They’ll live like a local and become immersed in the culture. They'll learn the language and gain valuable international experience. They will learn a lot about themselves.
Being an exchange student is a challenging, rewarding and fun experience. Teens are not a tourist or a guest. They are actually living in their host country as a member of that community.
Student exchange programs promote tolerance, maturity and independence. They also encourage an international perspective. In a very competitive world these are highly sought after qualities.
Our brochure details information on all aspects of being an exchange student or host family, including details of our free information sessions. But, most importantly, read what other students have said or view videos featuring students sharing info about their volunteer host families, school and social life.
There are scholarships & discounts worth over $100,000 on offer each year to Aussie and Kiwi students.
You can also view our scholarship and country destination video library.
