The National Park Kellerwald-Edersee protects an important habitat for Europe - the green beech forest with his acidic soil and its natural dynamics. True to the motto "let nature be nature" creates new wilderness. The green beech dominates the closed forest landscape. Like a beukenzee extend its forests across 51 mountains and heads. It is no coincidence that here is a piece of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage "Ancient beech forests of Germany" is hidden. Block forests, oak-monsoon forests, rock carnation-rock fields, 1,000 wells and streams, but also valleys with wooded pastures chen and three complete the unique ensemble. Worthy red deer strides through the realm of the original beech. Black stork, eagle owl and wild cat have returned to the quiet woods. The lynx roams around again.
