Atlas Estadístico de Colombia on Windows Pc

The publication of the Statistical Atlas of the DANE Colombia presents to the Colombians and citizens of the world interested in the reality of our country, aims to provide, through thematic mapping, text, graphics and visual aids semiotics Complementary, a profile of the main population and territorial configurations of Colombia on demographic, social and economic aspects.

The immediate antecedent of this publication is the book of Demographic Dynamics of the Colombian Space developed by the DANE in 1999 in close collaboration with the Grows (Regional Center, Coffee and Business Studies) and the IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le Developpement) of France, as part of a joint project of the Andean countries focused on the study of the spatial structures and dynamics based on census information from each country. For the first version of the Atlas DANE made available information Population and Housing Census 1993 and other supplementary statistical information and to this second version to the General Census 2005.

Recognizing the importance of this work and in the interest of giving continuity to these projects, DANE undertook to produce this new version, incorporating the experience and expertise gained during the construction of the earlier work.

In fulfillment of the mission objectives of DANE and the public is informed of the reality of the country, the new version of Atlas aims to contribute to this purpose through a visual language and overview of demographic trends along the geography of the country.

The development of the new work was undertaken based on the results of the General Census 2005 and supplemented by alternative sources, such as administrative records and advanced specialized surveys of the country between 2005 and 2010. In cases where information was available, comparative analysis with the results of the 1993 Census were made.

In addition to giving continuity to the previous publication, this new version of Atlas maintains the same structure, the cartographic expression and organization of the content of the preceding work. However, several of the themes and maps have been reconceptualized or integrated into other for purposes of better understanding, using the advantages of the technologies of geographic information systems.

A major highlight of the new Atlas change is that given the wide information derived from the census and investigations undertaken, DANE decided to present this publication in three volumes. The first is geared to demographic and population issues; the second provides an overview of social conditions; and the third presents information on the characteristics and recent evolution of the main economic indicators based on both the 2005 General Census information and research being conducted by the DANE regularly.

It is hoped that this Atlas will constitute a reference document and consultation that meets the purpose of illustrating the characteristics and differentiation of demographic, social and economic across the country phenomena.
