Tersebutlah a boy named Sopaka. He came from a very poor family. When Sopaka seven years old, his father died. His mother remarried to a man who is very vicious, nasty and rude. He always hit, berate and snapped Sopaka small, friendly, innocent and good-hearted. His stepfather always think:
"This child is always troublesome alone. He is of no use. I very hate but can not do anything to him, because his mother is very loving. What should I do?".
One night he said to Sopaka:
"My son, let us take a walk".
Sopaka very surprised because his stepfather spoke so friendly so he thinks:
"My stepfather never spoke so friendly to me. But now it looks very good. Maybe my mother who asked him to act friendly to me ".
Then he went with his stepfather.
His stepfather took him to the cemetery that many bodies scattered about. Then he tied Sopaka into one body and leave it there. Sopaka immediately cry:
"Uncle, I beg my uncle did not bind to bodies smelly and dirty it. I beg you, uncle. I was so scared, uncle ".
Sopaka screaming so hard. But his stepfather go regardless Sopaka again.
Around the place is very dark, Sopaka petrified. Nobody in the grave. Because Sopaka petrified, his hair standing and sweat began dripping wet all over his body. His clothes were soaked with sweat dripping. Especially when he heard the voices of tigers, wolves, leopards and other wild animals, Sopaka cry and scream bloody murder. Sopaka realized that he was alone there and nobody can help him.
Suddenly he saw a man who looked very noble, handsome and shining so brightly on him. Sopaka heard him say with a very soft voice:
"Sopaka, do not cry. I am here to help you. Do not be afraid!".
And at that moment Sopaka be untied and stood in front of the Buddha in the Jetavana monastery.
Sopaka not trust their vision and hearing. Although the Buddha is in place very far away from the tomb, but he heard the cries Sopaka and transmit the light beam forward Sopaka and decided the rope ties to power. Arriving Sopaka poor in the monastery, Buddha bathing and using the costume robe, and gave him food, and comfort.
When the cruel stepfather came home, mother Sopaka asked:
"Where my son?".
"I do not know," replied the man cruel.
"He came back before I go home. I think he is sleeping ".
Sopaka mother went looking for her but not found. He could not sleep all night. He cried and cried constantly thinking about Sopaka.
The next morning he was thinking:
"The Buddha must know everything, past, present and future. I need to see the Buddha Vihara, and asked them where my child is? ".
With cries and tears, he went to a monastery.
The Buddha asked him:
"Why are you crying?".
"Oh, the Buddha", Sopaka mother said, "I just had a son. He was missing since last night. My husband took her walk, when returning home, he said that he did not know what happened to my son ".
"Do not worry, your son survived. He is here ".
Having said so, the Buddha summoned Sopaka, which has now become a novice, not as a former Sopaka again. Sopaka mother very happy to see her son back.
To hear the teachings of the Buddha, Sopaka mother very happy, and grateful to the Buddha who had saved his son. Later he became a follower of the Buddha.
