Although the direct translation of the word in Spanish Psalms comes from the Greek term Psalmoi, the meaning of the word "psalms" comes from the translation of several Greek words, which when translated, give it the following names: praise, psaltery, prayer, hymn, composition or song of praise to God, song sung to the accompaniment of a string instrument.
The Bible and the Book of Psalms

In the Bible, the set of 150 poems composed to be set to music is called the book of Psalms. This is the longest book in the Bible and is made up of five sub-divisions, which are related to the Pentateuch.
Sub divisions of the book of Psalms

The book of Psalms is located between the books of Job and Proverbs; These three books, together with Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs, are part of the sapiensal and poetic books in the biblical canon of Protestant Christians, named for the teachings they impart, some of them in the form of poetry.

The psalms included in the Bible are believed to have been primarily authored by King David, the great ruler of Israel, who according to the Scriptures had a heart after God's. There are also various psalms whose authorship has been attributed to Moses, King Solomon, Asaph, Ethan, Heman, Edutun and the sons of Korah. However, there are 49 psalms whose authorship is unknown.
At what time were the Psalms written?

The 150 psalms were written in Hebrew, during the time period of 1450 B.C. and 300 BC, but most were written in the year 1000 BC, at the time of the Maccabees, approximately. From the time of the kings of Israel, the book of Psalms was used by the Jews as a hymnal in the worship of God, which they called Seffer Tehillim (book of songs). In the New Testament it is mentioned several times as the biblos Psalmorun.

Topics covered in the Psalms

This collection of praises has various themes, such as: fear, anger, sadness, trust, joy, compassion, praise, prayer, among others.
