The book of Psalms is one of the most unique books in the Bible containing songs of praises, deep revelations of God’s heart and His character, prayers from the heart, poems, prophecy about Christ, visions of the glorious reigning of God’s Kingdom in the future, and inspirational words from the Jewish community. Most of the Psalms were written by David but there are also other writers such as the sons of Korah, to Asaph, to Solomon and Moses.

The book of Psalms has a total of 150 chapters but is not considered the longest book in the Bible in terms of word count. It is considered one of the most read and treasured among the books in the Old Testament.

The chapters of the book of Psalm are divided into five portions:
a. Psalm 1 – 41 is about the matters of human life, personal connection between man and God
“Unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.” (Psalm 25:1-3 KJV)

b. Psalm 42 – 72 is about the matters of the Israelites and their relationship with God.
“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.
Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (Psalm 53:1-3 KJV)

c. Psalm 73 – 89 is about God’s law and sanctuary.
“Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.” (Psalm 78:1-4 KJV).

d. Psalm 90 – 106 is about the nation of Israel and all other nations.
“O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory. The Lord hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen. He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.” (Psalm 98:1-3 KJV)

e. Psalm 107 – 150 is about the Word of God and the matters of His heart.
