Surat al kahfi consists of 110 paragraphs, including class Makkiyyah letters. Named letter AlKahfi means cave and Ashhabul-Kahf which means the Cave Dwellers. The second name is taken from the stories contained in this letter in verse 9 to 26, about some young men who slept in a cave for years.

In addition to the story, there are also a few pieces of the story in this letter, all of which contain i'tibar and lessons are very useful for human life. Many hadiths Prophet s.a.w. stating the primacy of reading this letter.

The virtue of reciting surat Al-Kahf:
- From Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri radi anhu, that the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said: "Whoever reads surat Al-Kahf on Friday, then God will shine a light between the two Fridays."

- From Abu Darda 'anhu, that the Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wasallam said: "He who memorized the first ten verses of surat Al-Kahf, surely he will be protected from the (defamation) Dajjal. And in another narration: "(ten last paragraph) of surat Al-Kahf."

- From Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri radi anhu, he said: the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said: "Whoever reads surat Al-Kahf as the revelation, then this letter will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection from the residence to the Mecca. And whoever reads the last ten verses of surat Al-Kahf and Dajjal out (coming), then the Dajjal will not harm it. And whoever perform ablution and then he uttered;
"SUBHAANAKALLOHUMMA WABIHAMDIKA ASYHADU AN laailaha ILLAA ANTA ASTAGHFIRUKA WA ATUUBU ILAIKA"

(Meaning: Glory to Thee, O God, and to praise you, I testify that there is no god haq diibadahi besides you, I ask for forgiveness and I repent to You), then it will be written on a sheet of clean white, then printed with printing equipment which will not be torn until the day of Judgment. "
