The 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship will be an international Ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. It will be contested in Espoo, Finland from 4 to 14 April 2019.

The IIHF World Women's U18 Championships are the junior edition of the IIHF World Women's Championships. The championships are limited to female ice hockey players under 18 years of age. The junior ice hockey tournament is held under the auspices of the IIHF, and is the female counterpart of both the WJHC and the IIHF World U18 Championships.

The inaugural championship was held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in January 2008.


The 2018 IIHF Women's U18 World Championship was the eleventh Women's U18 World Championship in ice hockey. It was played at the Ice Palace in Dmitrov, Russia from January 6th to 13th. The USA won for the seventh time, for the first time defeating someone else other that Canada in the Gold medal game. Sweden took silver, while Canada took bronze beating host Russia. The Russians beat Canada in the preliminary round, marking another first.

On 4 January 2018, the Ice Hockey Federation of Russia announced that all entry tickets would be free as part of their program.

The 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship will be an international Ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. It will be contested in Espoo, Finland from 4 to 14 April 2019.

The eidht teams were split into two groups according to their rankings. In Group A, all teams advance to the quarterfinals and three teams from Group B will advance. The bottom two Group B teams will be relegated. From the quarterfinals on, a knockout system will be used.

The two young forwards on Canada’s national women’s team may get that opportunity in the spring of 2020 when Canada hosts the IIHF women’s world championship in Halifax and Truro.

The poorly kept secret was officially announced Tuesday morning at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, one of the two host venues. The other will be the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro.

“They have a proven track record of hosting events of this caliber and getting the chance to showcase the best female players in the world on Canadian ice is something young fans will remember for a long time,” Scott Smith, president of Hockey Canada, said of Halifax and Truro.

“We are a hockey province, hockey is in our blood, it’s our culture,” said Leo Glavine, the Seniors minister who represented the provincial government at the announcement.

HALIFAX, N.S. – The IIHF Women’s World Championship will return to Nova Scotia for the first time in 16 years, as Hockey Canada announced Tuesday that Halifax and Truro will host the 2020 tournament.

The tournament will be played between the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax and the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro. The 2020 women’s worlds marks the eighth time Canada has welcomed the best women’s teams from around the world. Halifax previously hosted in 2004, where fans saw Canada blank the United States in the gold medal game to claim its eighth world title.

“We are very confident in Halifax and Truro as hosts for this event,” said Hockey Canada president and chief operating officer, Scott Smith. “They have a proven track record of hosting events of this caliber, and getting the chance to showcase the best female players in the world on Canadian ice is something young fans will remember for a long time.”
