The Atharva Veda Sanskrit Atharvaveda from atharvāṇas and veda, meaning "knowledge" is the "knowledge storehouse of atharvāṇas , the procedures for everyday life". The text is the fourth Veda, but has been a late addition to the Vedic scriptures of Hinduism.

The Sanskrit word véda means "knowledge, wisdom" is derived from the root vid- "to know". The Vedas are a large body of texts originating in ancient India.

There are four Vedas: the Rigveda, the Yajurveda, the Samaveda and the Atharvaveda. Each Veda has been subclassified into four major text types – the Samhitas (mantras and benedictions), the Aranyakas (text on rituals, ceremonies, sacrifices and symbolic-sacrifices), the Brahmanas (commentaries on rituals, ceremonies and sacrifices), and the Upanishads (texts discussing meditation, philosophy and spiritual knowledge). Some scholars add a fifth category – the Upasanas.

The Atharvaveda is the "knowledge storehouse of atharvāṇas, the procedures for everyday life". The text is the fourth Veda, but has been a late addition to the Vedic scriptures of Hinduism.

Atharva-Veda meaning "knowledge" is a sacred text of Hinduism and one of the four Vedas, often called the "fourth Veda". the Atharvaveda was mainly composed by two groups of rishis known as the Atharvanas and the Angirasa, hence its oldest name is Atharvangirasa
