The presence of Bangka Belitung University (UBB) is an ideal that has long been rooted in the people of the Seralai Sebalai. The idea of forming UBB has become a pre-determinant of the formation of the Province. The dream that had been mapped ahead of time in the province of Bangka Belitung was born and became increasingly prominent along with the establishment of the province of Bangka Belitung based on the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 27 of 2000 concerning the Establishment of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, on November 21, 2000.

Bangka Belitung University was officially established on April 12, 2006. This establishment was armed with the Decree of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 52 / D / O / 2006 dated 12 April 2006. The establishment of UBB was the result of unification of Tin Manufacturing Polytechnic, Tin College Agricultural Sciences (Bangka STIPER), and Engineering Heroes 12 College (STTP 12). At that time the location of the UBB campus was still scattered where Campus I was in Air Kantung Sungailiat (Polytechnic and Faculty of Engineering). Campus II occupies a building belonging to the Bangka Regency Government which is also jointly occupied by STAIN and STISIPOL; and Campus III occupies the loan building of the Mayor of Pangkalpinang. But along with the surge in the number of students, UBB Foundation then plans to build an integrated campus of UBB which is located on an area of 152 hectares of assistance from the Provincial Government and PT Timah Tbk.

At the beginning of its establishment, UBB's status is de yure is community ownership, whereas de facto can be said to have ownership of the Regional Government both Province, Regency and Municipality as the main buffer. In addition, support from PT. Timah Tbk is also quite large which also has a direct emotional bond with one of the forerunners of UBB Polman Timah, which in 2009 then separated from UBB and at the same time with UBB becoming a State Polytechnic with a new name of the Manufacturing Polytechnic of Bangka Belitung.

Monday, March 2, 2009 has become a historic moment with the events of UBB assets and Polman Timah surrender to the Central Government which confirms that the process towards the establishment of UBB is a definite step that will soon be realized. And at this asset delivery event, Timah Polman was again separated institutionally with UBB.
