A train is a form of railroad transportation that consists of a series of vehicles that usually run along the railroad lines to transport cargo or passengers. Motive power is provided by separate locomotives or individual motors in several self-propelled units. Although historically steam propulsion dominates, the most common modern forms are diesel and electric locomotives, the latter of which are provided by overhead cables or additional rails. Other energy sources include horse, engine or water-driven rope or winch wire, gravity, pneumatics, batteries, and gas turbines. railroads usually consist of two running rails, sometimes equipped with additional rails such as cultivation rails and electric rack rails, with a number of monorails and mixed maglev guideways. The word 'train' comes from the Old French trahiner, from the 'interesting, interesting' Latin trahere.

There are various types of trains designed for specific purposes. A train can consist of a combination of one or more locomotives and attached to a railroad car, or several self-propelled units (or sometimes a single or articulated powered coach, called a railcar). The first train is rope-transported, gravity-powered or pulled by a horse. From the beginning of the 19th century almost everything was supported by steam locomotives. From the 1910s onwards steam locomotives began to be replaced by labor-intensive diesel locomotives and less (but more complex and expensive) and electric locomotives, while at the same time several units of self-propelled good power systems became much more common in services passenger.
---
A passenger train is one that includes a passenger passenger vehicle which can often be very long and fast. One of the famous and growing long distance train categories is high speed rail. In order to achieve faster operations of more than 500 km / h (310 mph), innovative Maglev technology has been studied for years. In most countries, such as Britain, the difference between trams and trains is appropriate and is defined in law. The term light rail is sometimes used for modern tram systems, but can also mean a transitional form between trams and trains, similar to the fast rail system except that it may have crossings.
