Vocama is a vocabulary learning application which allows you to import your own list of words and their translations. These lists are called vocabularies. Application provides simple and natural learning methods which simulate the way of learning using just a list of words written on a paper or so called flash cards.
The learning process consists of simple steps when a word is displayed and you should realize whether you really know a translation of the word from your mind or not. Then you can check the correct translation and press button for correct or incorrect answer respectively.
Vocama counts correct answers for each word and the number of correct answers represents a level number of the word. Correct answer moves the word to the next level but in case of incorrect answer the word is moved back to the first level (level 0). When all words in a vocabulary are walked a new round is started. There is a maximal number of levels so words are considered learned reaching the final level and such words are not displayed in next round until all words are learned.
Vocama divides your learning into two directions (ways) and tracks a progress for each direction separately:
1. Forward (direction) - FWD: A word in your primary language is displayed first and you should know the translation to the secondary language.
2. Reverse (direction) – REV: The same as 1. but a word in the secondary language is displayed first.
Vocama allows you to use these learning methods:
1. Standard learning – Vocabulary is walked word by word and correct answer moves the word to the next level. Incorrect answer moves the word to the first level.
2. Deep learning – A small group of words is selected. This group is called window. Each learning round walks just words from window and each word have to be learned (correctly answered) multiple times until it is moved to the next level. In case of incorrect answer, the word is moved to the first level. When the word is moved to the next level, it is removed from the window and next word from the vocabulary is added into the window.
Vocama supports these ways of import and export of data (list of words together with all statistics and progress):
1. Import vocabulary directly from a spreadsheet from Google Docs. The spreadsheet must have a sheet with two columns, one for each language.
2. Export vocabulary together with or without your learning progress into JSON format.
3. Import vocabulary together with your learning progress from the exported file.
It is still possible to repeat already learned words but all the words in the vocabulary must be learned (they must be at the last level). When a word which has already been learned is still known then its level does not change and Vocama just tracks number of such answers as refreshes. When a word which has already been learned is forgotten then it is immediately moved back to the first level (level 0) and the learning process must start again for the forgotten word. Vocama tracks a number of times the word was forgotten as well and it also clears the counter of refreshes for the forgotten word.
Multiple vocabularies can be managed by Vocama and learning progress is tracked per vocabulary and per learning direction (FWD and REV). The progress is displayed as number of words per level. Another value showing learning progress is so called cumulative progress. Maximal number of cumulative progress is number of words in the vocabulary multiplied by number of levels. Current value of the cumulative progress depends on current level, number of refreshes and how many times the word has been forgotten.
