Mobile language AI engine that runs on your device
All translation analytics is performed in realtime in Chinesebrowser on your phone or tablet. There is no transmission of data to a central server for processing.
Integrated dictionary To lookup the meanings of Chinese words or English words just make a selection and select "Dictionary" in the popup menu. This will trigger a lookup to cidian.brainiii.com. The Pinyincidian dictionary app is also available for download where a lookup will then automatically channel to the app instead.
Add your own preferred dictionary site You can add your own preferred dictionary website by adding it to the list of search engines. Navigate to your preferred website, long tap on the search text box and select "ADD SEARCH ENGINE". Then when you make a text selection, select "Search" from the popup menu and the selected text would be copied to the Url bar. A list of search engines icons will appear at the bottom of the bar where you can tap on to forward the search request.
Unified Traditional/Simplified Characters Chinese text are uniformly displayed in simplified or traditional formats base on your preferred settings. Whether its websites from Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia or anywhere else, the chinese characters are presented to you only in the encoding format of your choice.
Hanyu Pinyin or BopomofoYou can combine Simplified/Traditional/AsPerBasis characters with HanyuPinyin/Bopomofo to suit your preference. See pinyin settings. If you have difficulty differentiating tone marks, you can turn on numberic tone markers.
Graded pinyin (Beginner/Junior/Senior levels) You can pick a grade that matches your chinese reading competency. Chinesebrowser pinyin layout has been carefully designed to be minimally invasive. It is not our intention to make readers dependent on pinyin to read Chinese. The overall design in Chinesebrowser is intended to function as a learning support mechanism(辅助作用). However, reading Chinese text, from simple text to policy documents and books, can be quite challenging even for those who have attained a high level of competency simply because the character/phrase/usage/vocabulary range for Chinese is very (very) wide. We have found that leaving the pinyin on the full page (default) does not hinder reading/learning even for very competent users.
Dynamic Zoom Text Reflow Zoom is a very essential feature to allow clear view of complex glyphs and pinyin. Chinesebrowser features "Dynamic Zoom Text Reflow" (DZTF) where the text immediately reflows as you zoom in or out. Images are automatically clamped to the width of your device. Overlays (these are typically popup navigators and advertisements) are automatically hidden when you zoom-in and are re-displayed when you zoom-out. DZTF is not part of the web standards and it means that websites' behavior and layouting may be impacted. Further note that some websites are very aggressive in enforcing "no-zoom" through javascripts. Chinesebrowser do not try to circumvent these websites.
Chinesebrowser is a Fully FUNCTIONAL web browser Chinesebrowser does not touch any textual content or modify any html structure with the objective of maintaining layout, data and security integrity. Pinyin text is NOT injected into the html data. Pinyin rendition is built natively into the browser. Text selection copied/shared from the browser will conform to its original content. Chinesebrowser is a fully compliant secure HTML5 browser.
Chinesebrowser is 'powered by Mozilla' It uses Firefox for its browser base (as oppose to webkit). Please refer to the app for license details.
