Secret Positions BJJ No-Gi Book nr.1 published in Brazil in 1998.

In 1997 the attorney and author of multiple martial arts books Andre Fernando Brandao came by Marcello Monteiro's academy in Rio de Janeiro/Brazil with the revolutionary idea to put together a book about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu No Gi techniques.

At that time in Brazil very few Jiu Jitsu coaches, was teaching the transitions from the Gi game to the No Gi game. One year after this visit, to Marcello's surprise, the book was published thru Gracie Magazine. The Gracie Magazine in Brazil sold the Secret Positions No Gi BJJ Book for approximately five years from 1998-2003. The Secret Positions Book was launched as the first and only No Gi BJJ book available at the time in Brazil.

It was released a few months after Fabio Gurgel's BJJ book ( Marcelo Garcia's coach) was released thru Tatame Magazine. The idea was to teach the positions thru pictures and visualization, not just thru words in Portuguese. Volume I was was created thru an artist's rendition of photos taken of Marcello Monteiro teaching the techniques. Two years after the release of Volume I Andre Brandao contacted Marcello to produce a second volume of this groundbreaking series. Volume II was produced with actual photos of Marcello teaching the techniques. One of the techniques in Volume II, Omoplata with foot lock, is taught with Marcello Monteiro and Ricardo De La Riva.

Volume two was dedicated to Marcello's close friends Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira, Rogerio "Minotouro" Nogueira, Ricardo De La Riva and Fernando Pontes " Margarida. In the back of the book you can see a very special picture of the five black belts together before every one of them became known world wide. In 2005 Marcello found out the a Japanese reporter Tsuno was still selling Secret Positions Volume I & II to poeple who wanted a piece of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu history. In Volume I you can see Marcello Monteiro teaching the famous No Gi Anaconda Choke currently used by the best submission grapplers and MMA champions in the world. If you are a grappling enthusiast, your library of instructionals is not complete without this series!
