SURF VOL is an easy to use calculator and must-have utility for any surfer.
Simply read the dimensions from your board and enter these in the App to reveal the volume in liters.

Two functions are included:
1) Integrating an existing surf board's dimensions and contours to derive the theoretical volume.
2) Median volume recommendation for your weight, height, and ability (personal preferences may vary).

Helpful for analyzing your existing or future quiver !
Keep it handy next time you browse your local shaper's boardroom.
Compare your board against your buddies.
Improve your surfing, paddling, and duck-diving by matching your equipment for the conditions.

If you search the internet, you'll find alot of volume calculators that recommend a certain volume
based on your physique, experience, etc. These web tools, tables, and/or graphs are supplied by shapers to help narrow the selection and best fit you to your next board.

The problem with using these alone is that although your height and weight are factual, your experience and skill level are quite subjective. Ask a dozen similar people what their skill level is and you will get a dozen different answers (this is known as the human Dunning-Kruger effect). So there may be some variability in not only your honest assessment of your own skill level, but also there is variability from the shaper's own definition of beginner, amateur, etc.

Where this app comes in handy is cross-checking your existing board against your future board.
Suppose your shaper's website recommends 27 liters for your next board. Take my volume calculator and type in the dimensions of your current board. Note any difference in volume between the two. That will help you understand what you will be getting in your next board.

For example, suppose my Surfboard Volume Calculator comes up with 26 liters in your existing board. Then its probably safe to say that your new 27 liter board will be more floaty. 1 liter is definitely noticeable. If you think your existing 26 liter board is barely enough volume, then 27 liters would be a good choice. On the other hand, if you think your existing board volume is already in the sweet spot, then you might want to keep your new board volume closer to 26 liters. Its probably a good idea to try several different shaper's calculators along with my SURF VOL. Also remember that volume, while critically important, must be precisely balanced against other compelling factors that an expert shaper will meticulously align when shaping your board. In other words, talk with and listen to your shaper for first hand advice.

A surfboard is an investment (at least for most of us), and as they say in the shop, measure twice cut once. Keep surfing !
