Sample excerpt from July 6, 2008:
In what is widely described as one of the greatest tennis matches - if not the greatest tennis match - ever played, Rafael Nadal defeats Roger Federer in a Wimbledon final for the ages. Nadal wins his first men’s singles title at the All-England Club and stops the run of five-straight Wimbledon titles of Federer in a gripping 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (8), 9-7 final in the longest singles final in Wimbledon history at four hours, 48 minutes. Nadal, the four-time French Open champion, becomes the first man to win the French title and Wimbledon in the same year since Bjorn Borg in 1980 and prevents Federer from winning his sixth straight Wimbledon men’s singles title, an unprecedented feat in the modern era of tennis and only achieved by Willie Renshaw from 1881 to 1887 when reigning champions only had to play the final defend their championship. In addition to holding a two-sets-to-love lead, Nadal holds two match points in the fourth-set tie-break - at 6-5 and 8-7 - the latter being snatched away with a brilliant backhand passing shot from the reigning champion. Federer himself is two points from victory in the fifth set leading 5-4. Three rain delays highlight the match, including a dramatic pause at 2-2, deuce, in the final set. The loss snaps Federer’s 40-match win streak at the All-England Club and his 65-match grass court winning streak.
