History of the Village

The village of Nania was initially full of sago trees and palm trees (mayang / sageru), so that there was a lot of sago activities (sago o'clock). According to some speakers, the word "Nania" came from two words, "NANI": sago and "YES": answers / enthusiasm to spur the sago smokers. In doing work, the smokers work while saying the words "NANI ... YES", ... "NANI ... HIM", ... "NANI..YA". If the two words are spoken quickly and connected, a word is heard, namely NANIYA, thus the area where the activities of the sago stoppers at that time were named NANIYA or now called NANIA.

Nania is a village that used to be in the Petuan Passo region. This is difficult to refute because it is supported by authentic historical sources. For example, Chris van Fraasen, the Dutch historian, who transcribed "Memorie van Overgave van de Onderafdeling Ambon van Assistent-Resident Van Wijk, August 1937" records the villages of the villages, Nania, Batoegong, located in the Land of Passo. Previously the area was empty. When there was a war between Leihitu and Passo, then the village of Nania appeared.

The original clans or the first inhabitants of the village of Nania now explained that they were from the land of Passo. The clan of Walaia and Brainella is the first clan to occupy Nania. However, after the hamlet occupied by these two clans was sold by the Simauw (Raja di Passo) clan to the Mailuhu clan, the two clans moved to Waiheru. In addition, there are also clans who have lived in Nania from the beginning: Marga Moseros, Mailuhu, Tahitu, Maitimu, Tanamal. Later other clans came and settled in Nania. The village of Nania is located on the south coast of Jazirah Leihitu, Ambon Island, on the inner Ambon Bay.

In the village of Nania there were two small rivers, namely the Wainini River on the East and at the same time the boundaries of the Nania village and the Lama Lama village, and the Waisalak river in the west which was also the border of the Nania village with Waiheru village (Hitu). These two rivers flow from the mountains. In the middle of the village of Nania there is a small river or pool of water namely "Waipipi" Water which since 1999 is the boundary that separates indigenous Christian housing from Muslim settlements.

The location of the village of Nania is rather to the beach, crossed by the Ambon-Laha highway (Jalan Laksdya Leo Wattimena), rather to the mountains from the new village now, there is a part of the village known as "Nania Gunung". The village of Nania in the south borders the Bay of Ambon, in the north bordering the Petuanan (village) Passo, on the east bordering the village of Lama and on the west bordering the village of Waiheru (Hitu). Nania experiences two kinds of seasons namely summer and rainy season. The village of Nania, for a long time - became crowded with migrants who wanted to stay and live in this village. No less the village of Nania has been famous among the population or surrounding villages and even heard out of Ambon City.
