Her Highness married Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God bless him and grant him peace, at the beginning of 1960 when he was governor of the Eastern Province (Al Ain). And then moved with him to live in Abu Dhabi after he assumed power in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi on 6 August 1966.

Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan, accompanied his term of office and his presidency of the United Arab Emirates and was closely associated with it as his first teacher and inspiration. Her Highness devoted most of her time and attention to caring for her husband, sons and daughters and dedicated them to their service. During his years of political activism, he worked hard to formulate his success story, which was the founding of the United Arab Emirates on 2 December 1971. All these factors have had a great impact on the progress of her Highness, as she contributed to the crystallization of her intellectual composition and prepare her to assume the heavy responsibilities that she took upon her in later stages.

Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak recognized the importance of science. She studied the Qur'an and its interpretation, the principles of fiqh and the Hadith. She also studied various fields of arts and humanities and studied history, politics and the fundamentals of diplomacy.
