Victory Day is a celebration of the victory of the USSR over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War. It was established by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 8, 1945 and is celebrated annually on May 9. Victory Day is the official non-working day in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan. In 2000, the Knesset passed a law on veterans of the Second World War, and since then Victory Day in Israel has been a public holiday. It should be noted that the war allies celebrate different dates. The reason for this is the time difference and the complicated German surrender procedure. That is why in the European Union and the USA, the day of victory over Germany is celebrated on May 8, and in Russia - on May 9.
Victory Day is the second most important holiday in the USSR after the Day of the October Revolution. Every year a military parade is held on Red Square in Moscow with the participation of the most modern military equipment.
