In the nineteenth century, Kentucky, a southern state, Mr. Shelby, a wealthy planter, and his wife, Emily, treat their slaves kindly. But the couple are afraid of losing the plantation because of debts and then decides to sell two of their slaves: Uncle Tom, a middle-aged man with a wife and children, and Harry, son of Eliza, a servant of Emily. This idea is repugnant to Emily who promised her maid that her son would never be sold, and Emily's son, George Shelby, does not want to see Tom leave as a friend and mentor. When Eliza surprises Mr. and Mrs. Shelby discussing the upcoming sale of Tom and Harry, she decides to run away with her son. Meanwhile, Uncle Tom is sold and embarks on a boat that is about to descend the Mississippi. On board, Tom meets a young white girl named Eva and befriends her. When Eva falls into the water, Tom saves her.
