According to historical accounts, Tuen Mun is a region of Hong Kong steeped in history. Liu Yuxi and Han Yu, both Chinese famous poets of the Tang Dynasty, described the scenery of Tuen Mun River as an area of choppy waves in their poetry works “Songs of Floating Waves” and “Poem on Farewell” respectively. The term “Floating Waves” used in the first poem refers to the waves that
repeatedly rush towards the shore with various patterns and paces. Utilizing augmented reality (AR) technology, this artwork “Floating Waves” presents a virtual art experience integrated with visuals of waves rolling continuously in close tandem with the soothing ambient sounds.

“Floating Waves” strives to introduce a journey bridging the virtual with the reality along the Tuen Mun River by integrating 3D mobile sculpture and AR technology together. Spinning along with the wind or spun by the participants, the sculpture would create an illusion of multiple layers of ripples. Participants require a smartphone for a full immersive experience with this artwork. Simply download the AR app via the QR code provided and follow the instructions to compose your own sound and visual experience. The music created would lift up the river surface to form recurrent ripples, infusing the Tuen Mun River with creativity.
