Sadegh Hedayat (born 28 Bahman 1281 in Tehran - died 19 Farvardin 1330 in Paris) was an Iranian novelist, translator and intellectual. He is considered to be one of the fathers of modern Iranian fiction, along with Mohammad Ali Jamalzadeh and the great Alavi and Sadegh Chubak.

Hedayat was one of the pioneers of modern Iranian fiction and an outstanding intellectual. Many scholars have considered his novel The Blind Owl to be the most famous and brilliant work of contemporary Iranian fiction. Although Hedayat's general reputation is in writing, he has also translated works by great writers such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Franz Kafka, and Anton Chekhov. The volume of works and articles written about the writings, life and suicide of Sadegh Hedayat shows his profound influence on the Iranian intellectual movement.

Many Iranian speakers of later generations, from Gholam Hossein Saedi and Houshang Golshiri and Bahram Beizai to Reza Ghasemi and Abbas Maroufi and others, have each been more or less influenced by Hedayat's work and life and have spoken about him.

Hedayat committed suicide in Paris on April 10, 1961, and was buried a few days later in section 85 of the Perlashes Cemetery.
