It is known that certain segments of the population that could participate intensively in cultural and leisure activities offered by cities fail to do so not only because of insufficient structures suited to their needs, but mainly because of the lack of information on the possibilities of access to places. So, thinking about accessibility issues to the physical environment, this Guide provides important information about access to various locations in the city. This is a research and cataloging work on universal accessibility, initially carried out by the Pro-Access Nucleus team, linked to the Postgraduate Program in Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PROARQ / FAU / UFRJ).

The Accessibility Guide provides no value judgment and is purely informative. The idea is to allow people with reduced mobility, the elderly, the person with visual, hearing, intellectual or physical disabilities, among many others, to judge on their own whether the place is accessible to them or not, based on the information produced professionals specialized in the issue of accessibility.

It is intended that the Guide be constantly updated and that other cities join the first ones, increasing the possibility of integrating all in the Brazilian cultural and historical spaces.

The professional team responsible for building this Guide hopes that it will become a tool for social integration, motivating the elimination of barriers not only physical, but also social, cultural, informational and communicational, political, economic and bureaucratic barriers.
