Full description Chairil Anwar was a poet born in Medan, North Sumatra on July 26, 1922. He was the only child of the Toeloes and Saleha couple from Lima Puluh Kota, West Sumatra. His father was a Regent of Inderagiri, Riau.

Chairil Anwar is still a relative of Soetan Sjahrir who is the first prime minister of the Republic of Indonesia. When Little Chairil Anwar attended elementary school for natives during the Dutch occupation. This school is called Holland-Inlandsche School (HIS). Then he continued his studies at Meer Uitgebreid Lager Onderwijs (MULO).

Then at the age of 18 he decided to quit school, he said that since the age of 15 he was determined to become an artist.

After his parents divorced, at the age of 19 years Chairil and his mother moved to Batavia (Jakarta), there he began to become acquainted with the world of literature. Even though he was divorced, his father still gave him a living.

Although not in school, Chairil Anwar can master several languages ​​such as English, Dutch and German. He also filled his time by reading works by famous authors such as: rainer maria Rilke, W.H. Auden, Archibald MacLeish, Hendrik Marsman, J. Slaurhoff, and Edgar du Perron.

Because of this, his writings were influenced by the author and indirectly on the Indonesian literature.
