PROTEATRO is a cooperative born in start-up thanks to MIBACT, which through the CULTURA CREA call funded one of our projects: the creation of a virtual community dedicated to the theater. Our mission is to increase viewers by streaming live shows. Our idea, the one that convinced us to realize the project, is not simply to show theatrical performances on the web. This is an idea that even in our eyes has often seemed unhealthy, useless, perhaps deleterious: for theater lovers there is nothing more beautiful than seeing the live shows. The theater today, in Europe, in the world, beyond the public seasons of stable theaters, lives on infinite small realities that, although they work hard and in an original way, fail to gain visibility if not within their own territory. Here, we want to be a point of reference for these realities, a meeting point: to know them, to make them known, to put them in contact. This is the community we want to give life to.

Where did our idea come from? Ideas are never born by chance, they are always the result of experiences: we live in a provincial territory, some of us have been making theater for decades and even realizing masses of scenes worthy of note and appreciated by the public, they have never been able to run own shows at national level. The successes, if there were any, were individual, not group. And yet it is the group that makes theater, not the individual, it is the community that realizes staging, not the individual. Like us, infinite realities.

Giving voice to these infinite realities is the project proposed at MIBACT, the one that was financed through the CULTURA CREA tender, what we intend to do.

Born in start-up thanks to this initiative, PROTEATRO gathers, however, the ten-year theatrical experience of those who are part of it and that has developed through various associations and companies all in a well-determined territory that goes from Irpinia to agro Nola. Territory in which we operate on a permanent basis having chosen Baiano (AV) as our headquarters.

In addition to the project of creating a virtual community, we do training, we collaborate with public and private bodies, we produce shows on commission, we work at our staging.

Our beliefs come from an in-depth study of the world of theater

There are thousands of ways of doing theater, all beautiful, fascinating, full of meaning. Over time, however, those who practice convictions mature.

Beliefs define a poetic.

Beyond the genres, comedy or tragedy, the poetics of PROTEATRO is based first of all on two concepts:

It is text-centric;
It's contemporary.
For us the theatrical text is fundamental, no theatrical action is born without being suggested by the text and linked to it. We are, in this, if you will, very traditional, perhaps demodé, but if so, live the tradition!

For us the representation of a text, having live spectators, makes the text always contemporary. This is why the concept of classical theater is an understatement. The theater, at any time it has been written, if it is represented, speaks to the spectators: in that place and at that time. This in no way means dressing Hamlet with jeans, but searching and re-searching for why it is necessary to represent Hamlet today, making it clear to the public.
