Image Targeting: Pocket Dragon AR

Image targets are images that the app recognises through the devices camera.

The Pocket Dragon represents some of our earliest AR experiments, using the principle image targeting as a means of facilitating augmented reality functionality.

This app recognises a specific set of symbols to conjure up commands, the first of which is to materialise the dragon.
The surrounding symbols can then be covered using the user's hand to issue commands that the virtual dragon will respond to.

Instructions for Use:
1) For the best results, try to situate the target image so that it covers around 50% of the camera scene.
2) Once tracked, the user can move their phone around freely, so long as the target image is present in the scene (please see the provided link for printable copies of the target image).
3) Some situations may make image tracking difficult, such as:
o High gloss paper or ink on image target print;
o Low light environments
o The target image being placed on an uneven surface.
4) Once the target image has been tracked, the meaningless targets will force the dragon to appear.
5) The dragon will then follow the user's hand according to its placement in the scene.
6) Tap the dragon using the mobile device's screen, to switch to symbol mode. This will allow the dragon to react according to whichever symbol the user covers with their hand.
7)Each symbol, when covered, will issue a different command to the dragon, such as jump, show fear, or be happy.

The Virtual Bank: Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping
The Virtual Bank app makes use of simultaneous localisation and mapping to render an augmented reality depiction of a virtual bank within the user's own space.

While looking through the mobile device, this virtual setting can be explored as the user moves through it in the real world.
Instructions for Use
1) Ensure that the app is used in a large, empty space with a relatively flat surface.
2) Hold the phone so that the camera faces the direction through which you wish to enter the bank from.
3) Point the camera towards the floor in front of you, and wait for confirmation that the environment has been mapped, which will display a large purple space on the targeted area.
o If the app struggles to complete mapping, move the phone around and rotate it slightly until it gets it right.
4) Tap on the purple spot to activate the projection. The bank will now appear on the application.
5) Move through the space in the real-world to walk through the doors of the virtual bank and explore it at your leisure.

Mythical Creatures: Markerless AR
The Mythological Creatures app conjures virtual mythological beasts into the real world using markerless AR. Once they are a part of the AR world, these creatures can be animated, explored and interacted with as they engage with real-world spaces, through a mobile device.

Instructions for Use:
1) Find a relatively large, empty space where your creatures can be placed.
2) Point your phone or tablet's camera to the floor, allowing the app to map the immediate environment
3) You may need to pan and rotate the camera a little to assist with mapping.
4) Once a purple spot appears on the floor, the environment has been mapped. Tap the purple spot to select a creature to spawn.
6) Tap on your selected creature once it appears to have it react in the real-world.
