The Boston Celtics were formed in the 1946 as one of the teams in the Basketball Association of America. The team with this green symbol was the first few years, until the Red Auerbach coach arrived. One of the famous players who joined the Celtics was Bob Cousy. He was also a rookie named Bill Russell joined in 1956. Russell later became an integral part of the success of the Boston Celtics. That year the Celtics also advanced to the final and beat another strong seven matches team, this was the first Boston Celtics title. In 1957, the Celtics challenged the same team in the final and lost 6 matches. But after that, the Celtics started a dynasty that would run for more than a decade.

In 1959, with Russell and Jones, the Celtics won the American champions after defeating the Lakers. Still coached by Auerbach, the Celtics won the next 7 championships, so 8 in a row. In this time, the Celtics met with the Lakers in the final six times, so they became mortal enemies. The Celtics finally met the Lakers 10 times in the final. After the 1966 championship, Auerbach retired as a coach but a general manager, who still held until the 1980s. Russell then took over as a player-coach. But that year they lost to another strong team in the Eastern Conference Finals. The aging team then won 2 championships in 1968 and 1969. Russell retired after the 1969 season, ending a dynasty that had won 11 championships in America.
