e-Health, Medical Informatics
Medical informatics has become over the years a true scientific discipline with its international congresses, its newspapers, its salons, its research laboratories, its national and international tenders to finance the research, its masters to train the students. Its bases and applications are taught, not only in all areas of health (medicine, odontology, pharmacy, maieutics, health and social sciences, School of Nursing and Physiotherapy, School of Public Health ...), but also in many other courses (Life Sciences, Engineering and Economics Schools, etc.). It is a complex and rapidly evolving material. The works relating to this field are few and quickly obsolete. This medical informatics book is the result of the collective work of many authors belonging mainly to the French College of Teaching Researchers in this discipline. It is made up of 19 chapters, all of which contain teaching objectives, tips for deepening knowledge in the field and exercises. Chapter 1 shows how medical informatics has become a scientific discipline in its own right. It presents the main areas and links with other subjects such as computer science, biostatistics, biomedical engineering, public health. The main learned societies, journals, congresses and trade fairs are listed here. Chapter 2 focuses on the major terminological resources in health. These are indeed an essential tool for the standardization of the expression of concepts and coding of information in health, these two operations being an essential preamble to the exploitation of information (research operation in particular). Chapter 3 presents the different sources of knowledge in health, the principles of their indexing, how to access them, and the criteria for quality of information. Chapter 4 deals with the representation of patient data in a health system. health information. The problems posed by the computerization of the patient file are analyzed. The methods of structuring and standardizing the data are presented.
In chapters 5 and 6, the reader is introduced to the principles of medical image processing and analysis. He can thus understand how these methods and techniques can "increase" the doctor and the surgeon, offer him the possibility to use robots and thus arrive at a better quality of the interventions. Chapters 7 to 10 concern the help to the individual and collective decision. The reader can thus apprehend the theoretical bases on which are built the methods of aid to the diagnosis and the therapeutic decision, as well as the great applications which result from it. Then, the medico-economic aspects are presented in order to be able to understand what is the program of medicalization of the information systems which led to sophisticated modalities of pricing to the activity in the hospitals. Finally, the different methods and tools that can help the decision in the field of public health are explained to the reader. Chapter 11 deals with the respect of the ethics, the texts of laws during the collection, the archiving, the transmission of computerized health data. The processes of securing recordings and exchanges of information are also presented. Chapters 12 to 17 deal successively with major applications of medical informatics such as the development of hospital information systems, that of shared files, the computerization of information systems. medical, dental and pharmacy practices.
