Humayun Ahmed (November 13, 1948 - July 19, 2012) was a Bangladeshi novelist, short story writer, playwright and songwriter, screenwriter and filmmaker. He is one of the most popular Bengali fiction writers of the twentieth century. He is regarded as one of the best writers after Bangladesh's independence. He is the father of the new style of dialogue in Bengali fiction. On the other hand, he is the pioneer of modern Bengali science fiction. He also won the Drama and the Film Director. The number of his published books is more than three hundred. Some of his books have been translated into different languages ​​of the world, some of the books are from the school-college university syllabus.

After passing the Higher Secondary Certificate from Dhaka College, he studied Chemistry at the University of Dhaka and the Polymer Chemistry at North Dakota State University. He was working as Professor of Chemistry Department of Dhaka University for a long time. Later, he left teaching for the sake of writing and filmmaking.

During the liberation war of 1971, Pakistani army detained him and fired for assassination after torture. He miraculously survived. The first novel, Nandit Narak, written by Humayun Ahmed, was published in 1972. From the time of this decade to the beginning of his death, he was a non-verbal artisan of Bangla story. In this period, the popularity of his novels and novels was unmatched. Himu and Mimi Ali and white characters created by him have deeply influenced young people of Bangladesh. Science fiction is also part of his works, his first science fiction is his love for you. The films he produced have earned outstanding enthusiasm. But his television plays were the most popular. Although not much in number, his songs also got popularity. One of his novels is the story of midday, joshna and genitalia, drunken air, lilabati, poet, king's name etc. In 1981, he received Bangla Academy Literary Award for his outstanding contributions to the novel section of Bangla Literature. In addition to his contribution to Bangla language and literature, Bangladesh Government awarded him Ekushey Padak in 1994.

His films are widely acclaimed in the general public. The first film produced in 1994 was released by the liberation war based on Bangladesh's liberation war. The film received eight awards, including the National Film Award for Best Film Division. Other well-liked films made by him are: Sraban Megh Megh Day (1999), Two Dwari (2000), Shyamal Shaya (2004), and Ghetu Sons' Orange (2012). Shyamal Shaya and Ghetu son Kamala were nominated for the Oscars in the Foreign Language Film section from Bangladesh. He also won the National Film Award for Best Director in the Directorate of Ghetu.
