Big Sur International Marathon Event App. Big Sur is run the last Sunday each April on a point-to-point course from Big Sur to Carmel, CA on scenic Highway One. Registration opens each year on July 15th. Other Big Sur events include the November Big Sur Half Marathon on Monterey Bay held in November and Run In the Name of Love 5K/2K held each Father's Day in June.

The Big Sur Marathon began in 1986 with 1,800 runners and has grown in size, stature and number of events since then. The course record of 2:16:39 set in 1987 by Brad Hawthorne still stands today. In 1995 the “Power Walk” was added, and in subsequent years additional walks (now “Milers” since participants have the option to either walk or run) were added. A 5K that had welcomed a schools competition for many years spawned a new kids’ 3K fun run now in it’s 3rd year in conjunction with both the marathon and half marathon.
The Big Sur Marathon has been called “one of the jewels of American running” and “one of the greatest running experiences on the planet.” It has twice been named the “Best Destination Marathon in North America” and has been ranked among the world’s top five marathons.

The Big Sur International Marathon is a non-profit organization that serves the community by providing a world class marathon and related fun events that raise money to benefit local charities, while promoting health and fitness.
