A phenomenon called as thermal runaway is the reason for most of the battery explosions. In this process, heat is not able to escape from battery and it keeps getting hotter until it melts or explodes. Reasons for unusual rise in battery temperature or explosion can vary from overcharging, use of inappropriate charger, aging battery, heating of mobile due to heavy multi-tasks, surrounding temperature, etc. We cannot stop this from happening, but at least alert the mobile user of unusual rising temperature so that appropriate device and personal safety measures can be taken.
