From the platform of Strasbourg Cathedral, 66 meters above the ground, discover a striking panorama of the city in 1490 to the west, and in 1730 to the east. Thanks to 3D reconstructions of great scientific rigor, compare the city of today with the medieval city of the 15th and 18th century. Follow its evolution, the way it has developed, protected and instinctively move from one 360 panorama to another. A simplified view also highlights significant buildings, fortifications, old streets, etc. to better understand and confront the current city with its history.

The western panorama presents the city in 1490, circled by its walls bristling with 25 towers, buildings now missing and the site of the second spire of the cathedral, which stood in the place of the current house guards.

The restitution of the city in 1730, to the east, allows you to explore the old Gothic cross tower of the cathedral destroyed in 1759, the urban fortifications of Vauban as well as the old house of the guards demolished in 1782.
The 3D renditions of the cathedral and the city are the result of work in historical research and 3D modeling, as rich in lessons for tourists as for enlightened amateurs. To create these images, we analyzed in detail all available writings on urban development of the city, accumulated a large amount of knowledge on the evolution of the territory, fortification systems, the hydrographic network, and relations between politics, economics, sociology, worship and development of architecture and urban planning in Strasbourg and Alsace. We hope this application will enrich your knowledge of the city and allow you to better understand this fantastic heritage!
