Barra de Navidad or Puerto de la Navidad, (Mexico) is a town located in the state of Jalisco. It was a Spanish shipyard located in the municipality of Cihuatlán, Jalisco (Mexico) at the time of the conquest and of the first Spanish explorations towards the South Sea. Many Spanish expeditions departed from the Puerto de Navidad or Astillero de Navidad towards the North Pacific and towards the Philippines. At present the population is more modern. There are bars and nightclubs that coexist with historical legacies and old houses from the time of the colony. The population is mainly dedicated to tourism. As in all coastal communities, fishing is an integral part of the survival of its inhabitants. In the region you can get squid, clam, octopus, lobster, shrimp, goldfish, sailfish and other fish. In front of the town is the tourist complex of Isla Navidad.

De Barra de Navidad departed the expeditionary fleet under the command of the Spanish advance Don Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Fray Andrés de Urdaneta to the far east in search of the Islands of the West that had been discovered by Fernando de Magallanes. To remember these expeditions the main street of the town bears the name of Miguel López de Legazpi; while the Mexican Navy made an expedition to the Philippines in the 1940s, a badge is kept in the main square of the locality located in the hotel zone.

Captain Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's naval expedition sailed from the same port on his voyage of exploration towards the North Pacific, a trip in which the captain and explorer Cabrillo died as a result of a quarrel he had with the Californios Indians, that trip culminated in the discovery of the coasts of the present state of California.
