I am RAMKUMAR.R (FISH FARMERS ASSOCIATION (FFA)STATE PRESIDENT) from Vazhoor, Kottayam. I was interested in fishes from a very early age and was growing them since 1995. I was working abroad for more than 15 years and returned home in 2016 to start my own farm.
I faced a lot of difficulties in the initial days, due to lack of knowledge and understanding about how it works. I went around gathering as much knowledge as I can and set up the first RAS system at my pond. I was also imparting all that I learned to the ordinary farmers like me, without any reservations.
That is how the first "Vazhoor Fish Farm" WhatsApp Group originated.
Now I have 4 WhatsApp groups and one Facebook page dedicated for the purpose of sharing knowledge. There are lots of members participating in this group including 15 scientists, who are specialized in different area of aquaculture. Dr.Arun(Chinese Academy of science), Dr.N.K.Sasidharan (Tsunami Rehabitation Director and IRTC director) and many experts that from fisheries department and experienced farmers. Everyone shares their practical knowledge and experience liberally and we have in depth discussions and Question & Answer sessions with the experts frequently.
The discussions are not only regarding growing fish, but also about marketing them. One such discussion of the group members has led to the creation of 'Fish Farmers Development Society' which was recently inaugurated by the Fisheries Minister, Govt. Of Kerala, aiming to support the ordinary farmer by eliminating middlemen and passing the profits back to the farmers. Dr.R.Rajeswari ( Researcher in International marketting) is also giving guidance to the farmers for marketing their products.
We are leading suppliers of imported aquaculture equipment at very competitive rates. We also provide best quality fish seeds of many different breeds including Tilapia, Anabas and giving guidance in new technologies like aquaponic, Biofloc, Ras system and spirlina culture etc. Through this endeavour of ours, we aim to support farmers with seeds and equipment at best rates, which will inturn facilitate our primary goal of providing fresh, toxin free healthy fish to the consumer.
