Why Arek Memo?

Two more months the age of sy even 60 years. Of course you could say old age. But there are many leftovers that make me want to continue to live in the Journalistic realm, then I try to realize it. Of course there are many parties who participate in pumping up the spirit of sy, but there is one who is so sincere that he wants to save his life who can say he is dead (between life & death), namely Mbah Agus, friend, friend, brother and teacher.

As soon as I expressed my intention to create a website as well as the Weekly News Tabloid (still a discourse) called arekmemo.com, Mbah strongly agreed. Especially when I say, I want many friends to live from Arek Memo

Sy worked in the Morning Memorandum (Memo) Daily since February 1982. At that time, I was the third-level student of the Surabaya Journalist Academy (AWS) who had worked as a journalist at the Pos Kota Kota Representative Office in East Java.


At that time, Jawa Pos Daily published in the morning was dead. Likewise, Suara Indonesia Daily. So the newspapers in Surabaya left the Surabaya Post, and even then the afternoon afternoon, as well as small newspapers like Radar Kota and Surabaya Minggu.

At that time the Weekly Memorandum (originally Student Weekly) belonged to Alm. Mr. Agil H. Ali was given permission to become a daily. This is where a lot of AWS friends burst into the village to join the HP Memorandum.

Skitar 2 months enjoying being a Memo journalist (when it was still a white newspaper, not as criminal as it is now), really had a stir. "We always defend the truth, stand on honesty" where there is injustice we are here to defend the people. Various parties blocked our courage, including the authorities and businessmen, that we were detained several times because of the hard news against the flow in the New Order era.

Tiba2 Jawa Pos was purchased by Tempo Weekly News Magazine. Dozens, even hundreds of exodus reporters moved to the new JP with the lure of large salaries, the newly published ones were commanded by Dahlan Iskan (Tempo reporter in Surabaya).
Including dozens of Memo reporters. Only a handful of people remain loyal to accompany the editor in chief as well as the owner of Memorandum H. Agil H Ali (Alm.).


Long story short, finally JP bought the Memo which according to Mas Agil was "confiscated" by Dahlan Iskan to be cut down ... There are no newspapers in Surabaya and East Java that can be large, except Java Post ... Until Mas Agil died, he still kept his dislike of Dahlan Iskan.

Of course, many cadres of Mas Agil (ex Memorandum journalists) are scattered in various regions. Starting from those that still exist manage, work in the mass media, build buildings, turn to become politicians, farm in the village, make warkop, which of course they will not forget history. So this Arek Memo was made to be a means of friendship with former Memo friends. Anyone who feels he has worked on the Memorandum, can join, write anything ... I hope that Arek Memo can support many friends, especially to support a good mind to enlighten the community.

Another thing that was in my mind: why Arek ... Of course that arek is a teenager, the next generation ... this generation is trying to target us: How to protect them? How to protect them? How to educate them? How to save them? From the chaotic face of this country that is increasingly pocked by greed and arbitrariness of naughty elements.
