Early life
Walker was born on August 24, 1997, in Northampton, England, the son of Norwegian Hidle Omdal Walker and Englishman Philip Alan Walker. [3] [4] With birth, he is given dual citizenship on the basis of the origin of his parents who are different citizens. At the age of two, he moved to Bergen, Norway with his parents and sister. [5] Walker grew up with two brothers, an older sister Camilla Joy, born in England, and a younger brother Andreas, born in Norway after his family moved from Great Britain. [6]

Growing up in the digital age, Walker discovered his interest in computers which later turned into an attraction for programming and graphic design. Walker has no music history, but he then taught himself by exploring YouTube videos about music production. [7]

Career
2012-2014
In 2012, he listened to the song from David Whistle (formerly known as DJ Ness), and asked for help from an Italian DJ how he produced music. He started all his music on his laptop with FL Studios. In the same year, he started making music on his laptop and the song immediately caught the attention of the record label. [8]

Alan Walker's song "Fade" received attention after it was released in 2014 on YouTube through the NoCopyrightSounds record label. The song has more than 200 million views on YouTube, [9] 50 million on Spotify, [10] and 18 million streams on SoundCloud. [11] This has become the most popular song on the channel, as well as one of the most used music backgrounds on YouTube videos. The song "Specter" and "Force" were followed in 2015.

2015
Walker signed with MER Musikk under Sony Music Sweden and the next single, "Faded", was a local remastered version of "Fade". The song was released on December 3, 2015 and featured female vocalist Iselin Solheim. The song's release date was originally planned for November 25, 2015, but "because things are out of control", [12] The song was released until December 3, 2015. The song became phenomenal in several European countries and placed it as the best song in Norway, Sweden, Finland , Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States, many parts of other European countries and some Asian countries. [13] On the YouTube channel the song has more than 850 million viewers and 5 million likes, [14] placing it among the 20 best-liked YouTube videos. Song also received official remixes from Tiësto, Dash Berlin and Hardwell.

2016
After "Faded" became the most hit song, Walker quit high school in January. [15]

On February 27, Walker made his live performance debut at the Winter X Games in Oslo, where he brought 15 of his songs including "Faded" along with Iselin Solheim. [16] [17] His performance was broadcast live on television.

In March, Walker produced 30 to 40 songs in total, but "Faded" marked his first single with Sony Music Sweden, the first to achieve global success.

On April 7, Walker collaborated with Swedish singer Zara Larsson at the Echo Award in Germany, together with their songs "Faded" and "Never Forget You" respectively. [18] Four weeks earlier he received first place on NRJ Euro Hot 30 for the first time, this was also achieved by another Norwegian artist, Kygo. [19]
