In order to guarantee the sustainability of the workers' retirement regime and to make the system equal and fair to all, the federal government sent to the National Congress the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) of the New Social Security. The proposal seeks to approximate the retirement requirements of private sector workers and public servants, including politicians.

New rules

The minimum age for retirement is one of the main changes presented in the text. After approval, as a general rule, men will retire at the age of 65 and women at 62.

In addition to the age criterion, as a general rule, the following minimum contribution times must be attained in order to obtain retirement: a) 20 years of contribution to private sector workers; and b) 25 years for civil servants.

Nova Previdência will change the contribution rates to the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). Those with higher salaries will contribute more. Who has lower salary, with less.
